My thesis film follows a lonely protagonist as they become obsessed with wanting to become part of their favorite TV show. As their reality warps around this obsession, we see them grow more and more out of place in a world they don't belong in. Clearly stuck between two different realities, they must find a way to reconcile their feelings of otherness and take control of their own life.
It was important for these two different worlds to have very different aesthetics and color pallets
Early inspiration for the film was moody Soviet films and Tamagotchi. Yuri Norstein and Jiri Trnka had a huge influence on my aesthetic.
The world inside of the TV is meant to feel warm, childish, and almost nauseatingly happy. I tried to reinforce this feeling by reducing my color pallet to the warm side of the color wheel, using a looser approach to perspective, and defaulting to a more "iconic" way of drawing.
The "real" world is meant to feel cold, disheveled, and a little sad. The only light sources are the tv, and the light that comes in through (mostly covered) window. Though it isn't clear in this shot, the drawings in this section of the film are more traditionally in perspective, and the compositions are claustrophobic in their framing.
The story follows an estranged protagonist as they become obsessed with their favorite TV show.
